My name is Tucker Seifert. I am an aspiring historian, sociologist, and teacher, currently in the M.A. of History program at Appalachian State University. Following my graduation in May, I will be attending West Virginia University to pursue a Ph.D. in sociology. I aim to combine applied and scholarly research with community engagement to foster education and develop strategies to ameliorate the impacts of the opioid epidemic. My historical focus centers on bringing needed academic attention to the mountainous regions of the Upland South, exploring the varied experiences of Appalachia and the Interior Highlands, while challenging long-held myths and misrepresentations. I am also interested in the long history of the relationship humans have had with psychoactive substances. I am a husband, dog owner, and music enthusiast. I hold a deep passion for writing music and love to play basketball. I hope that my work, art, and passion will contribute to our understanding of the human experience, however small a slice of it I can help to illuminate.
